1979 115hp Evinrude piston design?...

This is more of a question that'll help prevent trouble. My father owned a 1977 115hp Evinrude and the piston went because the top ring land was too close to the top of the piston, so it had no strength. He claims that they corrected this in 1979. Is this true? Did they increase the space between the top of the piston and the rings? :confused: Thanks

Irdir.... Your father is correct about the piston design and the cure. However, if memory serves me right, I believe it was the 1979 models that had what is called the "High Ring Pistons".
