I have a 1979 Johnson that has ran perfect since I got it in January. I use it a lot, probably 2 times a week. The last 2 times I went out, while I was running 3/4 stick, it just shut down like it was not getting gas. I shut the motor down, start it back up and on my way with no problems. Seemed like it shut down after running about a mile or so and then I stopped it 3 or 4 times fishing and ran another 2 maybe 3 miles before going home.

I checked all the connections and they looked ok.

Check the fuel tank vent as well and change out the fuel line if you have a spare.

I will change the fuel line as i am not really happy with it. My tank is a 12 gallon in boat and I'm not sure where the vent is. Hmmm got to check on this when I get home. Good input.

Also check the fuel tank vent and make sure it is open and clear.

Possible that your engine is consuming more fuel than the pump can supply. This could be anything from a weak fuel pump to a bad fuel hose to a defective anti-siphon valve on the tank. Will it continue to run properly if you squeeze the fuel hose bulb constantly? (this overrides the fuel pump)
