Greetings again to all! I recently got a 21' Cobia with a '79 140 on it . Got it started for about 5-10 seconds ( with gas squirted in) and it would cut right off. If I held the choke on it would stay running longer (rough) but would then cut off probably by fouling plugs. I changed the fuel pump because it was leaking even after rebuild gaskets but still the same. The guy at the marina told me even though I was putting on a new fuel pump that it was probably the hi speed jets that were clogged ( engine had been sitting for a while). My question now is can I run some carb cleaner through the lines or do I have to take the jets out and clean them? Someone told me that if you hold your hand over the carb throat that it will force the carb cleaner into the jets to clean them out ( sometimes works well). Also do you have any diagrams of the carb that I can go by to rebuild? Thanks in advance, Bill.
