I just picked up a locked up 1979/15 hp Rude.
Any place to get the bore size and stroke?
Need a good place for pistons and bearings too.
Will buy Wise-co if no suggestions.
A downloadable manual would help a bunch.
I know Forces/Chryslers but got this for free and am thinking about a rebuild.
If it's not wort rebuilding I'm selling parts.

The top cylinder will need to be bored out .010.
Gonna need a prop too.
The owner let it set with salt water in it..
I don't have it completly broken down yet but am gonna start searching.

THANKS!!!! Jerry

Re: 1979 15hp Evinrude

The piston diameter for both the 9.9 & 15 hp motors from 1974 to 1992 are 2.188" with a stroke length of 1.760" which equals 13.2 cubic inches or 216 cubic centimeters. Full power operating RPM for the 9.9 is 4500 - 5500. The 15 hp motor is rated at 5500 -7000 RPM according to a 1978 Johnson sales brochure.

The above came from an article that I have found useful in working on these motors

I have a 1978 Johnson 15, which is virtually the same motor you have. Mine spent two years attached to a dingy on a yacht moored in salt water while the owner was in failing health. When I fanally got the whole thing apart. the pistons were OK, but the rods and crank were toast from rusty journals. I'm still waiting to find a donor motor cheap. The motor isn't worth paying even EBay prices for these parts.

Re: 1979 15hp Evinrude

Thanks,I appreciate this!!!
So far the best part is the lower unit.
The motor was left full of salt water and from the looks the guy NEVER EVER flushed it.
It looks like it was driven REAL hard too.
The guy I got it from said the owner drove it, a 10ft.plastic boat. from Jacksonville,Fl to Sebastian,Fl.
About 200 mi.on the intercoastal. Then put it away.
Gonna finish taking it apart today.THANKS AGAIN!!!
