I have a 1979 Johnson 35 that I for the life of me cannot get to plane out or get into high speed. I replaced the power pack, coil packs, rebuilt the carb replaced the fuel line on the outlet side new spark plugs. What else can be wrong. Points? Help please...

Well, the good news is no points to worry about. Did you do a compression and spark test?

Is it coming up to operating RPM? Bogging out?
Again check compression, spark and go through that carb again. Esp. the high speed circuit. With this little info it's hard to make a diagnosis. What exactly is it doing?

Cant get it to plane? Or is the motor not running right? To plane have you moved the tilt pin.I believe there are 5 different holes the pin can be moved to,Normally the 2nd hole from the bottom hole is a good strating point.

Thanks for the reply. Yes I did in fact do a compression test about an hour ago. The top cylinder is @ 100 lbs and the bottom cylinder is @ 92 lbs.

it runs like a champ @ idle speed, when I put it in full throttle it has a burst of speed but quickly bogs down.

No it won't plane. Motor is running great at idle. Bogs down in high speed. Tilt is good.

Have you checked all the fuel lines for leaks?Even under the cowling.carb bolts tightened, fuel Tank vented,Fuel pump working. If those are OK I would go back to the carb, reclean the high speed orifice.

I picked up used fuel pump from Budget boats and rebuilt it, hoses are tight. tank is vented. I ended up buying a new fuel pump to be sure. Should be in Thursday.

Still sounds like a dirty carb. or the float isn't opening all the way.
