Just bought a skeeter bass boat with a johnson stinger 75hp. First test on the lake the motor starts up idles good put it in gear and go to take off you can here it surging does put the boat on plane but surges almost the entire time. Brought it home took carbs off noticed the airbox was barely bolted on really loose clean carbs put back together. Second water test starts runs good take off does the same surging/bogging but not nearly as bad bump choke helps a little bit. I also did notice the little clip that goes on the float to the needle not one of these carbs had one is that normal where should I go from here

What is your compression? Is the carb roller in good shape? Does pumping the primer ball make a difference or not? How did you clean the carbs? Have you tried adjusting them? Has a link and sync been done? Is the waterpump in good condition?

Compression was good I did do just a quick clean I have ordered rebuild kits I'm going to tare them down and rebuild them with a more thorough cleaning I have not adjusted anything i am getting a lean sneeze ordered a new fuel pump as well. Where is a good starting point on the air fuel screw. I have noticed things missing the gaskets under the needle seats are missing. Pumping primer does do anything its pretty firm but i figured a new pump can't hurt.

The 79 models do not appear to have a low speed mixture screw.-----But you could have carburetors from another year.-----Model # is ?-----Short or long shaft motor ?----Good compression would be 140 + PSI on those motors.

You also need to prop that motor to reach 5800 rpm. There was also a service bulletin for drilling vent holes in the prop , to help with low speed bogs. What is your.model #.

It is a longshaft I took the carbs back off tonight I'm tearing them completely down soaking in carb clean overnight I noticed the float height is set where the float is setting a good amount above parallel to the carb and there all missing the little clip the holds the needle valve to the float could those two cause this
