I have a question about my boats control system. I have an older boat and bought a good used boat that had a better motor on it. The new boat has a controller on it but I wanted to use a quick silver controller that I had. I have since swapped motors and installed this quick silver controller that I want to use and now, the motor starts good (idles a bit high) but when I move into forward position the engine starts to rev really high and if I back off and move to reverse position, the engine slows down but will stall if I keep going. Everything that I'm using is Mercury and I thought it was all the same. Any info on what I have done wrong would be appreciated.
Thanks!

First the control must push the throttle closed in neutral.
Second the idle stop screw must be set correctly.

Third, it sounds like you need a Mercury Service Manual for your motor. It will have all the specs you need.

Thank you for all your previous help! I managed to get the motor swapped over from the other boat and am happy with how it's running, seems to be running smooth now and have the cowl put back on. Todays project will be adding a 2nd battery with Blue Sea ADD-A- Battery kit, should be interesting.
