Ok, I sold my big boat and got a good flat bottom john boat for the river with a 1979 7.5 hp Chrysler. I replaced the fuel lines because they were dry rotted...got them hooked back up and the motor would start but only run on full choke...and then I had to open and close it to keep it running. I am sure the fuel was not the best as it was left over from last year. The tank is the OEM metal tank. I considered replacing the tank and probably should. The other problem I am having is the primer bulb will get just a bit firm but it seems to not expand back all the way, like there is a vacuum or something. Any ideas?

alrighty....update
replaced the oem fuel tank with a plastic. put in new fuel, changed the connection going into the tank, started up the motor with full choke then let it run a few minutes. took the cover off, turn off the choke and adjusted the idle...runs like a champ. I let it run for five mins or so and then did a questionable thing. I went inside and got the wife and we pushed the boat into the river (no, its ok, it runs through our front yard) got the 2 little ones and up river we went. But it ran very smooth.

Needing to choke to keep running is a sign of a bad fuel pump.
Or a pump needing to be looked at.
Ethanol is screwing up a lot of hoses and connectors.
Install a filter G-2 or G-3 maybe G-12 Fram from Wallyworld.
Install it between the pump and the carb.
