I have a chance to purchase a 1979 Crestliner 18` Deep Vee Bowrider with a Mercury 150hp outboard it has all the bells and wistles but my main concern is the value the guy wants 3500.00 my issue is.
its over 25 years old and this will be my first boat I dont want to waste my money the boat hull looks brand new with a shine its also been sitting up for 2 years he stated that it had carb/jet issues and was put in the shop
to be fixed
my thing is
is the boat worth $ 3500.00
I know the motor may have to be replaced with a 4 stroke sooner than later

Thanks SBN I checked out the web site and it was very information I looked at the boat yesterday and it was in good shape outside inside has its normal wear and tear for a 30 year of boat the motor was a strong 2 stroke Merc 150with stanless steal 4 blade prop with some kind of whale tale on the end funny thing tho I thought 2 strokes required an oil and gas mix but I cant see how you mix the oil unless you pour it in the gas tank I offered the guy 2500.00 he said he has other people comming by to look also well wish me Good Luck

Is the boat Aluminum or Fiberglass. I do not remember any true deep V back in that model year.

If it is aluminum should be a good boat, no stringer to rot.
Crestliners in 1979 were welded but used some rivets on the main aluminum stringers. I never have know one to leak but should ask or get a ride.
Aluminum trailer boats held up very well. If it ever was docked in salt water for long time make sure you check the hull for pitting.
If the hull looks good should be a good boat and worth a lot as they hold up very well.

My 1980 model still looks new except for the paint faded some on the south sunny side.
