1979 Johnson stinger 75 hp 75elr79r

so i think i really found the problem this time. We were double checking the timing with the timeing light when we saw a spray of gas coming from the top carb

so with the strobe light we shot all 3 carbs and large amounts of gas were spraying out from the carbs

we held our hand infront of the carbs and it was spraying gas on our hands.

so i have 3 bad reed boxes?

I looked up the part on shop2.evinrude.com and the pn: 0389731 it is $124.97
so is that for 3 reed boxes or just 1?

is their any aftermarket parts?

Any thoughts on used parts from ebay, ive seen them for 50 bucks for all 3

I wouldn't but new ones until you can confirm a problem with the old one. Are any of the reeds broken or cracked? Are then bent?

i dont think any are broken we looked it over real good last time we had carbs off. I think we are going to take it off today and see whats going on with them.

Pull the head and check the cylinder walls, pistons scuffed on exhaust side will cause fuel to spit from carbs along with idling and bogging problems and compression will check good. It will also have a gargly sound from carbs when rev'ed up.
