I could get this boat for 850. It has a new floor and upholstery and a 120 mercruiser rebuilt last summer. Is this a good deal and what should I know about citations before I buy it. Are they good boats?

Re: 1980 17' citation

I had a 17' Citation with the 140 hp version of the same engine. It was either a 1983 or 1984. An entry level boat, but really a good buy at the time. I had trouble with blistering on my hull in less than 1 season, but they replaced the entire hull (I've never heard of a boat maker doing this before, they took the guts of my boat and put them in a new hull). I enjoyed my boat, but the interior, fittings, swim platform etc were about the cheapest things you could put in a boat.

It's a 1980. Doesn't matter if it was a good boat when it was new, it's 31 years old. What matters is what it's like now. If the motor really was rebuilt and it runs well, it's a good deal for $850. The questions is whether or not the new floor was done properly. However, I wouldn't be real concerned at that price. Heck if you only get a season or two out of it before having to redo the deck again, it was still a deal.
