I just purchased an older aluminum boat that has a 1980 45 hp Chrysler motor on it. I am not familiar with the chrysler motor at all. I started it up and cannot see where the water pump is putting out any water (the pisser). I am afraid to run it very much because if the water pump isn't working then I don't want to get the motor to hot. I would like to find where the water is supposed to come out so I can figure out if it is plugged up or if the water pump is bad. Thanks

Are you running the motor in a barrel or in a lake or river? It is common to not get water if your motor is not deep enough in the water. I?ll attached my 1970 35 HP Chrysler showing my barrel and level in the barrel that I need. I have been 2? to high due to storing with my wheel off the ground and w/n get water. You will also see a Tell Tale that shows water off to the side to verify pumping vs trying to see the true outlet in the back.

I have other pics related to changing the pump if needed if our motors are similar. Good Luck!

I was using muffs to try to get it to work but I just tried to run the motor in a barrel. I don't have any water coming out. Wickware, could you please send me the pics related to changing the pump?

Thanks

Where in Mo. are you located? You should purchase a manual for your engine, Clymers is best, I think you can get them here on this site.

1970 Chrysler 35 HP Water Pump PM Tips:

1. I add a longer bolt to lower the LU to rem the cotter vs readjusting gears shift linkage.
2. A hand impact was handy to rem the resisting screws.
3. Inspect the housing for too much pitting etc, realign the small impeller to shaft pin.
4. I could verify I had good water tube connections from two camera shots (snout?, leg joint ).

Good Luck! jow

PS. I should have found this info shared in an old post but I c/n search and find it??

After thinking about it more I took the boat to the lake to make sure I had it in enough water and the pump worked fine. I guess I just didn't have it in deep enough water. Thanks for all the info.

Good, But! It would be good PM to check the impeller if you d/n know the history and last change. Even though I went from the 1985 purchase until 09 w/o checking mine and I still say it was as good as new. Possibly due to the little summer fishing only (6-12 gals of fuel burned at the most in 2-3 months). I told my partner we might afford just 6 gals for deep water fishing this season and fish from docks etc before the TX heat drive the fish deep. BTW we retired in 03 but find it harder to find time for fishing now.
