1980 4o horse merc no spark

My engine has 2 stators ,one going to the switch box and one going to a rectifier. If the stator going to the rectifier was bad would that create a no spark issue to either coil.i am under the impression that the rectifier charges the battery when running. Thanks in advance

Correct one part of the stator charges the battery via the rectifier.----Other part initiates pulses to the switch box for ignition.-----Google -----cdielectronics ---- For trouble shooting on this system.

Thanks. So the one going to the rectifier has nothing to do with the no spark issue
