1980 - 85 Charger Thermostat

hi, bit of advice please, continuing the rebuild of the Charger, about to start fitting all the little bits, cant remember which way up the thermostat fits, small hole down or up ?

hi, yes the spring is pointing out, BUT i mean the small "weep" hole that is next to the actual opening plunger, i believe designed to let a small trickle constantly run through so as not to completly shut off water to the cylinder head. i know on the smaller chryslers it is in the rim of the stat, but on the bigger ones it is a small depression next to the plunger.

On those early Force engines, the thermostat can only fit with the spring out--Which I thought was stupid because that way the expansion element is on the side with no water flow.


The weep hole, actually a Vee notch in the frame, can go in any direction but I usually orient it up. It does provide a small amount of water flow to heat the expanding element. When in the up position, the water will definitely run down over the element.
