Hi,
need another question answered please, I am stripping my charger to check everything over so that i can clean / paint / in general refurb like new,

So i have removed the exhaust water jacket cover and just below it is a diamond shaped cover which houses a spring and a cross shaped plastic bit, what does this actually do? i am guessing that it is a relief valve as it was semi full of salt type stuff ( it was a sea engine) and it has a hole down towards the base plate.

That's exhactly what it is.A pressure reliefe valve.I'm AMAZED you got it out!!!!!
It's for excess pressure as the motor revs up.Not installed on later models and not really neaded.
But since it's there. You need to put it back in.Most end up getting stuck closed cause they didn't flush the motors.J
