I have a 16ft 1980 alumnacraft with a v-hull and with the age and being very unfamiliar with how to find information I am unable to find out how much weight my transom can handle. I have a 15hp 4 stroke and it is very underpowered and have a great deal on a 1 year old 50hp 4 stroke. Would the extra 100 pounds swamp my stern or should I be safe, will rarely be going full throttle with a 50 hp obviously.

Welcome to iboats.

I have had 2 16' alumacrafts. and they were very different boats.
One was rated at 25 hp, the other was rated for 65 hp.
So, the answer is.... what model is the boat?

Does it have a steering console?
Or is it set up for a tiller motor?

A 1980 alumacraft Lunker 16 is rated for 60 hp.

A lunker Pro is rated for 70 hp.

An FD is rated for 25 hp.

I believe it is either a lunker 16 or lunker pro because it has a 64" beam length and the FD is too skinny. And i believe it is a modified boat with the steering console taken out and converted to tiller and a heavier diamond plate deck is up front.
