Hello fellow IBoaters! Question: After running my 70 hp Evinrude for a while on the water, it has a very hard time restarting. The fuel ball doesn't firm up and keeps pushing fuel completely through the carbs and leaks down through the bottom off the carb breather cover.I believe the float bowl gaskets are allowing too much gas into the motor because if I take the engine cover off and hold the throttle wide open it will start and leave a large plume of smoke. Also as I'm cranking the key start I see gas dribbling out from the bottom of the carbs. Like way too much gas is pouring in. I believe, as in lawnmower engines etc, the gas that flows into the carb/motor has to be metered or limited as to not flood the spark plugs, thus hindering or preventing firing of the cyls. I'm thinking the carbs have to be rebuilt?

Sounds like the carburetors need to be " cleaned " as float valves are sticking open.-----Fairly easy job to do yourself.

Use only OEM kit as it comes with float (396701) and it only a couple dollars more than aftermarket kit without it....

Yeap rebuild the carbs if you haven't done it in recent memory. Grab a gallon can of carb cleaner and put the parts in it and after soaking reassemble with the new parts. Then put in a fuel filter since you may have some crud in the tank causing the debris to get in the carbs.
