1980 (ish) Johnson 9.9 running cool

I bought a 1980ish 9.9 locally and although it runs great I've noticed that no matter how long it runs in a garbage can, even in gear at moderate throttle the tell tale water stream never even gets lukewarm. I measured the temp at the top of the head and at the back of the head water jackets with a laser point/shoot thermometer and saw temps of about 130 f. It seems that despite this the pee stream is cold. Is there a problem, seems to me that water should be about 130 f or so...or am I off base.

look on the transom mount, for a plate 1"x3" or on the block for a disc like this. you need the model # to date the engine.

The tell tale output is before the thermostat. It may be pumping out water very early in the circulation path and not getting a good heat exchange before it dumps.

I was hoping it would be something like that...any idea what year the motor is....that tag on the block is the only think I could find other than the cast in number (earlier picture)..

Unfortunately that welsh plug has only the serial #. I forget when the switched to only marking the serial #. It'd be good to find the actual model#, although someone here may be able to tell you just on the ser.

Easiest way to pin down a rough year range is to describe the throttle handle and controls. Take a look here, and you'll at least have a rough idea.
