I have a 1980 Johnson 100 (with no trim / tilt). When I raise the engine, I get fuel leaking from the carbs (From both the top and bottom carb, on the side the engine is turned to).

With the engine down, I can pump the bulb and it seems to get firm with no fuel leakage, so it would appear the float is working fine.

Is this normal? If not, any idea on what would cause it. I don't mind dismantling the carbs, but I don't really want to do that, if this is normal.

Thanks

Agree. Normal. These early crossflow engines did tend to leak a little fuel from the carbs when tilted up overnight. From the mid 70's into the 80's models. Carb design in the later crossflow years improved on this problem. My 79 85 hp leaks slightly when tilted up for trailering. Make sure your airbox drain hose is connected to the block and that the cork airbox gasket is intact between the two airbox halves. That will minimize the problem, but not solve it.
