1980 Johnson 35hp Powerhead/exhaust question

The gasket between powerhead and exhaust housing has been damage. I want to replace this gasket. Can I just unbolt the exhaust housing from the powerhead with the lower unit in tact?

A better way to put it is remove the powerhead from the exhaust housing. You don't have to mess with anything from the powerhead down. But you do have a lot of hoses, linkages, wires and stuff to deal with at the powerhead.
