Good afternoon all. I purchased this motor last summer and it had good compression and ran alright but it was a little gummy, carb hadn't been addressed in a while and I wanted to do a strip down anyway. New impeller, carb clean and it ran well all fall but started to get gummy again and would not idle. Did a carb kit with a fuel filter this spring and it was running great at high and low RPM's....until last weekend. I believe I got some bad gas, as well as, being too heavy on oil. I had the motor in the bucket last night with fresh gas, a new tank, new line from tank to motor and all new internal lines. I had very heavy exhaust and it was burping frequently and would was only having water/exhaust from the shaft not from the "pee" line. I also noticed very heavy oiling on the plugs and oil leaking from the sockets and dripping down the shaft. Looking for any information or if anyone has had similar issues. I am at the point where I may get rid of it as I need something reliable for those icy fall Great Lakes mornings. Thank you very much.

I just sold one of those exact motors.Don't assume everything good yesterday is good still today.Since you claim you got bad gas did you take the carb off again and reclean it?What do you mean water/exhaust from shaft?Get an air hose and see if you can blow some air down thru the pee hose towards the block, you should hear air hissing down below.Did you have the water deep enough in bucket? It may of been air bound? When you say it is dripping down the shaft do you mean the leg or steering tube? You need to start over and recheck spark jumps 7/16th gap, recheck compression, carb etc..It is an old motor and you never know when something could fail one day to the next.If it was burping(missing) at idle it could be lean, but If your plugs were that wet is rich and flooding out.Your float could be stuck..You may have multiple issues.May have fouled plugs now also.Could be losing spark?
