1980 Johnson V4 85hp won't turn off.

I have a 85hp Johnson v4 Seahorse, year I think is a 1980 after looking at the model number. Model number is J85MLCSA. Today while I was out the motor would not shut off. This was just after it felt like I may have skimmed a rock because I heard and felt a thunk... prop just got skimmed a bit nothing major. Took a few minutes of fiddling and when I had the key off and I turned the wheel it went off. I think I have a connection problem becuase my cables might not be giving it much slack. Any help of what to check here whould be appreciated, like wire color for the switch to turn it off. Thanks!

The black with yellow stripe wire is the kill wire. Grounding it turns it off. That's what the key switch does.

Thanks, I'm going to go check to make sure it's getting a good connection with the ground.
