Just got my first boat and off to a difficult start!!

Pull the cord and the motor starts fine but… if when I grab the tiller handle the prop (engine) appears to be locked. Tried pulling every lever I could find but it won't turn port to starboard. No problem tilting it up and down.

I must be doing something stupid! Please help

HI, Wildeman
what is the engines model number? and I can't understand what your are asking but I will give it a shot:

Is it stuck in neutral? is there a shift lever on it? when you move this shift lever does it change into gear? or does nothing happen? does it spin the prop a little but will not get the prop up to speed so it just over revs? in that case the Hub might be the problem!

Hi Wildman
There should be a tensioning screw somewhere near the top of the pivot. Try looking between the transome clamps. Between the transome clamps and the bottom cowl there should be a cap screw. This screw applies presure to a friction plate. loosen it up. Your unit may be froze up also. Apply heat with a propane torch and then greese

guys, thanks for your responses but i think i need to try and explain again.

The motor starts and the prop will turn forward and reverse. My problem is the outboard its self won't turn. I think i've activated a locking device, ie for when it's on the trailer so the outboard doesn't move from side to side.
