I was filling up the 25 liter gas tank in my boat today, and when I was taking it out of my boat to go fill it up at the pump, a spring, washer and what looked like a ball bearing shot out of the end of the fuel line when I disconnected it from my motor. From what I have been reading, I believe this is the anti-siphon valve (?). I may be completely wrong about that though. Fuel was allowed to leak out of the end of the line (there was nothing stopping it). Is there a repair for this or will I need to replace the fuel line (it is a mid 80's Merc with the old connector)? And can I live without it and still run my motor until I get it fixed (a few days)?

My Grandpa is coming to visit/fish tomorrow, so responses asap would be great! I really hope I can still go out on it without these pieces/valve.

Thanks!!!

I think what you are talking about is the line cut off. I think you should be just fine running it without that part, just make sure it is attached to the engine or gas will squirt out. Another thing you need to check is that no fuel is leaking from the fitting when it is attached to the motor and there is pressure on the line. If so air can get into the fuel system and cause the motor to run too lean no to mention you will be spilling gas into a lake. Don't worry about the part too much you can pick it up at most any boat parts store like west marine or bass pro, all you will have to do is cut off the old one and clamp and new one on. Good luck have fun tomorrow.
