1981 4.5hp Evinrude tilt ?

Guys, just picked up a 1981 4.5hp evinrude, everything seems to run fine so far.I have one question though, when you tilt the engine up all the way, is there supposed to be a locking device to keep it tilted up ? If not I could put a piece of wood under it if to keep the engine up so I can leave the boat anchored in the water ? cheers...........

If there is no mechanism for holding the motor up, tighten the pivot bolt a bit. There should be friction washers on that bolt that will let you tilt it up and hold it there.
