Hi all i'm having a lil problem here..i was running my 60hp on the lake for 1 last time before storing it for the winter everything was going fine till i opened it up full throttle, was going for couple min's then i lost all speed an all i heard was grinding so i through it in nuteral an tried putting it in gear gradually, nothing just grinding noise so i had to paddle back took about 2 hrs to get back to short wasnt too pleased..
so after i got it on the trailer i checked the prop an turned the flywheel by hand to see if the prop was catching everything seems normal was thinking maybe the rode from the crackshaft to the prop was making it grind from not catching?

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated..

Thanks..

If you had a "spun" prop, it wouldn't make any grinding noise, so, It looks like you need to pull the gears from the casing and take a look. It's possible the clutch dog is gone and that's not to expensive to replace. Keep your fingers crossed and pull the gears. You can get help here on this forum. Good luck and keep us posted.

Did the mtr still run after the grinding noise ? Did you pop the lower g/c screw and see if any metal particals came out ?

the boat was in storage an i went to take the motor off so i could work on it in my garage, drained the oil out no metal pieces
the motor runs no prob it's when i throw it in forward or reverse grinds an will not go in gear i was thinking maybe i need new cables, considering i have no idea when they were last changed
