I have a 1981 7.5 hp johnson that is getting no power at all to it. Also it does not have any compression at all. Can someone tell me whats wrong with it. Thanks.
Well it needs compression, spark and fuel in order to run. Your not doing too good. Spark can be accomplished by trouble shooting and purchasing affordable parts but compression is another matter. Internal parts ar very expensive and could dictate your motor is not worth saving. First thing I would do is pull the power head and then remove the cylinder head and the exhaust plates and have a good look at the pistons and cylinders for problems. Check for scored surfaces and frozen rings. Perhaps the head is already loose and leaking compression as you pull the rope. Have a look and get back to us. I would normally say buy a manual but I wouldn't even invest that much until you have a better idea of the motors condition. If you could share a little history on the motor it might be helpful. Best of luck. Rick.
