if a c10 is 1/2 ton
a c20 is 3/4
a c30 is 1ton

I'd say a c70 is 2 1/4 ton. Just a guess.

Might try calling a large truck parts supplier they would be able to tell you from memory.

Depends on the rear end and frame. Is a hydraulic brake unit??? If so the capacity is less than 26,000 lbs. If it is airbrake equipped (your talking CDL class w/endorsements) it could be up to 30,000.

Dual rear wheels? If they are 10 x 20 wheels make friends with your local school bus company. They have stricter tire regulations for buses and often change them out with plenty of tread left.

Either way you should be able to haul quite a bit.

Usually Ryder and Uhaul sells their box trucks off cheap with a warranty to boot. Easy to convert them to a flatbed.

Bob

Bob pegged her it was on the recall list back in time here's the info
GMC:C70:1981 Recalls
81 GMC C70 - STEERING:LINKAGES:ARM:IDLER AND ATTACHMENT
86V081000-GMC-C70-1981.
STEERING CONTROL ARM CAN BE OVERSTRESSED WITH HEAVY STEERING INPUT CAUSING IT TO CRACK AND IT COULD EVENTUALLY BREAK COMPLETELY. CONSEQUENCE OF DEFECT: IF THE STEERING CONTROL ARM BREAKS, COMPLETE LOSS OF STEERING ABILITY AND TRUCK CONTROL WOULD OCCUR WITHOUT WARNING WHICH COULD RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT.Tue, 1 Jul 1986

There's no such thing as too much truck. :D I've been thinking about getting one like that and putting on a regular bed...kind of like those new $100k pickups built on a dumptruck frame. :)

That's a short bed and wheelbase. You will run out of space before you overload it.

The two speed rear end is a plus.

Those 22.5 tires are not cheap. Now that I have seen it...I would venture to say it's capacity is about 18-20 K and no cdl is required (Hydraulic brakes).

If you need a hauling truck I would still suggest uhaul or ryder used trucks. If you olny have an occasional need say once a month then just rent one for the day.

Bob

I have a c50 plated at 20000, believe empty is around 11000. I've had 4-5 tons in the back and pulled 10000 plus pounds of equipment no problem. Unlike the one listed it is only a 4 speed and no split rear. The bed and chassis are small, you could always put a dump bed on.
