1981 Evinrude 25hp running probs. HELP!!

I just bought this boat from a friend and when he parked it in 03 it ran great. I cleaned the carbs and put everything back together. When I took it out it idles great, starts on 1st crank, but when you hit half throttle it dies. I got it running and left the choke on and it runs out. What have I missed? I am a noob when it comes to boat motors. Any help when be appreciated, Thanks

I'm thinking pinched fuel line or incorrectly adjusted float. The reason that it runs on choke is because you're running out of fuel, and shutting off the air by closing the choke richens the mixture. It very well could be that something is still stopped up in your carb. Is your tank vent open? does pumping the bulb while it's running help? No doubt, you're not getting enough fuel somehow or another.

Most carbs have 3 sets of jets, idle, mid and high speed, you need to clean all 3 sets.

If that sat for 5 years with gas in it your carbs are gummed up, a jet can look clean and still not work, take a stranded copper wire, strip the cover off and peel back wires till you can get it to fit into the jet and scrub it back and forth a couple times, I would do them one at a time so you don't get them mixxed up.

Not sure where they are locates on your carb but mine are, mid located in the top front under a screw, idle on top right side of carb and high speed is inside of float bowl drain, you will need a really skinny screw driver to get them out and put down a newspaper to work on so you are sure everything is clean, cloth will leave lint on things.

So when the engine dies and you hit the choke it revs back up again correct ? if so it must be a fuel problem it may be the fuel pump is blocked up there is a small mesh filter on top of the pump normally, you can access it by unscrewing the screw on top . As mentioned before make sure you have physicaly removed the jets to clean them as it could be blocked both sides

I put all new jets in and cleaned the fuel filter. So do u think it is a fuel problem. And yes when the choke is on it will go full throttle but if u turn the choke off it will run fine until u hit a little bit above half throttle then it dies..

Finally got this figured out. There is a small jet in the bowl that was clogged up completly. I took the carb apart completly and put in a carb dip and let it soak all afternoon and put it back together and fired right up and run out great...... Thanks to all of you for your help... Jayme
