Good day.

Have not used this OB more than once a years for last 5 years and it was hardly broken in prior to that and was used as a backup motor on a bigger boat mounted on a swivel bracket. In other words a very low hours motor. I own a 15 hp which is my main motor.

As far as I can remember water coming out of the 2 holes below the engine was never hotter than warm. I took it out today for it,s yearly run on my small tiller controled boat and found the water exits to be warmer than normal. (maybe my imagination) There is continuous water flowing from the telltale. I checked inside the cover and I could touch the cylinder walls after a short WOT session and it was hot enough that I could not keep my fingers on em more than a few seconds.

Question: If telltale has steady flow of water does it automaticaly mean the impeller is working OK ? how warm (or hot) should the water outlet from overflow on motor base be to the touch ?

Asking opinions prior to taking it to a $ 65./hrs mecanic. Thank you.

Here is a link to your motor, the thermostat #19 is probably stuck. Easy to fix, and water coming out of the holes only tells you that the water pump is working.

Head temperature should be 140-145 degrees.
Thank you for your informations. Obviously if it aint broke I dont want to fix it. It does look like the head has to be taken off to replace that thermostat. I guess 145 degrees should be hot enough to NOT want to keep your fingers on it very long ... just like I experimented .... hard to tell without a real gauge. I'll switch to the Force 15hp so see the head temp difference prior to taking it to the shop. Regards.
