Looking to possibly buy a 1981 marlin w/ merc 140 hp. Says it has 40 hrs. on rebuild. What should I be looking for when going to check it out? Also are parts and service easy to come by for this engine? Would you reccomend this powerplant? Thanks
You chould check the compression on the cylinders. if it is good, the rest can be readily fixed. The issue on that motor is due to it's age, most shops will not work on it. If you can do your own troubleshooting and repairs, it is not an issue. If you cannot, look for a newer engine.
