This is my situation. I am trying to sell this motor and want to be honest. I have done a compression test (165-170-170) and a leakdown test was good but not sure if I did this right. I know I had a problem when during 3rd day of a fishing trip and cruising at about 3/4 throttle (no tach or temp gauge), had a sudden loss of power. Pulled plugs and top plug coated with aluminum. This motor was rebuilt a couple years earlier but did not have many hours on motor. Long story, but can't go back to this mechanic. Besides I bought boat after rebuild. Carbs had been rebuilt earlier and had been working fine. My theory is that motor had to be rebuilt due to same problem that is going on now but was not corrected. What are the likely candidates, carbs, fuel pump, reeds, fuel lines, fuel hose/tank, ethanol or poor engine design ? I don't want somebody to think a carb rebuild is the answer but if I knew the problem I could determine a fair value and the buyer would know what he is getting into. Just trying to be fair to both parties.
