1981 mercury 40hp

can anyone tell me the correct propeller for an 81 basstracker nwith the 81 40hp merc it has a chewed up 13 inch pitch prop I don't know if its original.....it weighs 600 pounds dry and carries 5 gallons of fuel and two guy at a petite 500 lbs any help is greatly appreciated

dakotamike, The true only want to know the proper prop for you boat is to know what your present prop is turning at WOT. How high are your RPMs with the present prop with the boat loaded like you usually run? Because then you can determine if your 13 pitch prop is right, under pitched, or over pitched. So post your PRMs and we can see what you need to do...

Those props are nominal 10 inch diameter, that is.\, one may be 10 1/4 while one may be 10 inches even. They come in a number of pitches. If you had decent or satisfactory performance with the 10 X 13 and you don't have a tachometer replace it with another 10 X 13.

If you do have a tachometer and the hull runs at the listed range of WOT RPM, then replace with a like prop. If it does not run at the correct RPM, the switch to a different pitc determined by if the RPM is too high or too low.
