I've been working on this 1981 50hp Mercury (5747060) that I replaced the water pump impeller. the tell tale has hot water coming out at idle, but you get the RPM's up and the water stops and just steams pours out. could it be possible the power head base gasket is blown out and the exhaust is overcoming the water pressure from the pump? I've removed the lower unit many times and the impeller is still in great shape. I've blown air through both ways and it sounds wide open, so I'm ruling out any major restrictions
