Hi, im brand new to owning a boat i just purchased a 1981 ski supreme with a 454 motor last week. its in relatively good shape no holes in the body, brand new interior and supposedly a rebuilt engine. now the problem i'm having is the boat is equuipped with an expasion tank because its a "closed system" so there is antifreeze that is "supposed" to cool the motor but sadly the motor overheats. i dont know if i hooked up the hoses the wrong way or if there is a bigger issue. i'm posting this hoping that someone has experience with "closed systems" and can point me in the right direction to a diagram on how to hookup the hoses. i've only seen a diagram where the exhaust has a single (outlet or inlet) not really sure where the hoses hook up to the waterpump and the tank. but my exhauast has dual (outlets or inlets) on each exhaaust so im totally confused. the exhaust says "indram" on the side and i cant find any info on that style exhaust because mine our cylinder shape and the only ones i see online are not cylinder shaped i know i probably didn't explain my issue very well so if there is anyone out there that can HELP i could really use it. i can post pics of the setup if that would make it easier. OH, i took it to a boat shop in town and they said i should take the "closed system" off completely but from the little info i read online a "closed system" is supposed to be way better than fresh water cooling. (but maybe i'm misinformed about that)
