I have a 1981 Webbcraft and am repairing a soft spot in the floor and have a couple questions based on some other info I have read on here.
1. I have cutout the majority of the soft spot which was under the two captains chairs. My dad had scabbed in a piece of plywood about 10 yrs ago but didn't seal the seams or anything. (Yes it held for that long.) Anyway, the foam appears to have some water in it. You can see from the picture where the bad spot is in the floor. Do I need to remove all this foam, or do I let it try to dry out?
2. The floor behind this seems pretty solid, although the foam is under that portion too. My thought is to leave the foam under the good floor and maybe replace the foam under the floor that I am putting in. The foam appears to support the floor outside of the stringers. How do I attach the floor to the stringers? Can I fill in with new foam on top of old and assume this will hold the new floor down. Then glass over seams and plywood to match existing? (Am also adding aluminum plates under captains chairs for support.)
3. How do I know what type of foam is in there now? closed cell or open cell?
4. The stringers appear to be solid. Do I need attach the new floor to those somehow?
