Hi guys I need a big favor Im trying to fix it myself to save some money .I have a 1982 15 hp jhonson 2 stroke it was working fine but last time at the end of the day at the lake I disconnected the fuel line from the tank and let run til it died and I noticed the primer bulb shrank . then at home I couldn't start it because the safety lock next to the starer pull rope got locked but finally I started it with starter fluid for 2 stroke motors but I had to hold the throttle otherwise it would die any ideas of what went wrong ? Maybe I damaged the fuel pump ? I would appreciate any help I know how to change parts when Im given guidance.thanyou

Ask this question in the Johnson & Evinrude forum down below under Engine repair.

Disconnecting the fuel line and running it dry won't hurt anything, I do that every time. I'm confused by the bulb "shrinking", once it was disconnected nothing more should happen there.

Don't use starting fluid in a 2-cycle motor, a bit of gas/oil mix in the carb is what to use. Have you opened the gas cap on the tank to be sure there isn't a vacuum?

Let's keep things down to one topic. I've consolidated both here.

Are you sure your tank is vented. If nothing else loosen the gas cap. If you primer bulb is "shrinking " it is not getting enough air. Did you try another tank like I suggested?

Disconnecting from tank will running will collapse primer bulb. Shouldn’t have hurt anything.. pull motor-side fuel coupler to run out carb.
