1982 35hp evinrude

Hi I have aquired yet another motor to my collection. This one runs fantastic, but does have one problem that is unusal to me but is has been discussed here, I'm sure, before. What the motor does, at wot, it will hick-up(for want of a better term) every 15 to 30 seconds or so. It's like it pops out of gear and back in almost instantanious. I'm pretty sure ist's a lower end problem. Any thoughts? Thanks.....Robert

I have a '76 35hp that is IMO a piece of elephant dung. However I have had similar problems. First thing I would do is pull the flywheel and check, assuming it has points ect the condensers and gap the points to the spec's. Today I took mine off and for the second time in a year one of the condensers came loose from its mount, and it was not pretty. Im sure there are more experienced folks that may have a better idea whats wrong. Hopefully you dont have the points ect to deal with cause as soon as mine is running its gone.

since this is a cd ignition motor there are no points. Could this be a carb problem or a problem withe the shift adjustment. any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks....Robert

it sound like a clutch dog starting to give up.

No, it sounds like it already gave up. It won't heal by itself, you have to get into the lower unit and fix it before it beats the shift linkage loose too.
