Hi, need a little help here, I have a 1982 55hp chrysler outboard, i just got the motor running after 3 years or sitting cleaned the carbs, cleaned out the fuel diaphragm, runs amazing, idles good, but when im out on the water and open her up there is no power, feels like half the power. I am mechanically inclined with vehicles motors but not boat motors, is there anything i can do or check before putting more money into the motor? please help!!

I take it that you are using fresh fuel. One quick thing to check is to look down the throat of the carby to see if the butterfly is opening all the way. If you have the equipment a compression test may help diagnose the problem.

I?m not familiar with this motor but if it has a butterfly style choke is it opening all the way when it is turned off?

On my motor the main jet in the carby starts working at about 2000 rpm. If this is blocked it could give the symptoms you are having.

Does the motor sound like it is missing or just short on power?

Other people may have some ideas that help.

Good Luck

These 2 cylinders will run with only one cylinder sparking.

Make sure you get spark in both cylinders.
