1982 9.9 Johnson stuck in forward

I need a little advise please. My 9.9 Johnson is stuck in forward. All the linkage from the shifter handle all the way down to where it leaves the lower head casing to the leg looks intact and behaves normally. It appears something broke below this. Am I looking at a major repair here and will I have to disasemble the head and leg? Any input would be very helpful and appreciated.

Phil: You may have bent the shift rod or the connecting device may have come loose on the shift rod {it's down inside the exhaust housing}.I'm no expert, but have done this job several times and it's not difficult. Invest in a manual for this motor and it will take you through it more smoothly. With a motor this old, I would plan on replacing the water pump impeller also while in there. Good luck.

Thanx for the info Jack. I sure will pick up a manual and an impeller. I was seriously worried I had a beast of a job in front of me, but if you've been through it before and say its not, well thats a load off my mind (what little is left anyway).
