Details: bought an older unit and trim and tilt seem to work fine except that the trim will not stay out under power. There was a small leak on the tilt end cap and another small leak on one of the trim end caps.

I bought the OEM reseal kits for the tilt and for the trim cylinders and have installed them.

Questions:
  1. Will the reseal kit fix this or am I likely facing internal issues?
  2. There is some scoring in the tilt cylinder (and ram) but the tilt is not really the problem I am having. I can't see how this could affect the trim but am open to advice.
  3. is ATF just as good as TnT fluid? I've read various threads and some say yes; others say no.
  4. does anyone know if a 1990 johnson TnT would fit a 1982?
looking for some expert advice.

First, welcome aboard

on to the questions

1 - dont know. in addition to seals, there is the piston seal, the cylinder barrel bore and some check valves that all hold load. if any of them leak anything as much as a drop or two, it will not hold load. that is hydraulics 101
2 - scoring is bad. any scoring means a potential leak or blow-by. see above answer.
3 - SAE 10, SAE 20, ATF, UTF, AW46, AW64, TnT all similar. pump doesnt care if you flush
4. - That I do not know.

Yes 82 should interchange with a 1990 T/N/T, Look at how many wires come out of the motor to make sure. Look at the manual release screw on the side of the Unit. IF it is loose or has a bad o-ring it can leak by causing it to drop
