I have a 1982 Bayliner Volvo penta Engine Size AQ 125-170 it is overheating, air bubbles, changed water pump gasget new inpeller pump, anybody know anything about this boat thank you
Hi shiflett,

Air bubbles entering the raw water system is usually a sign that the outdrive pickup tube and/or hose is leaking. Is it fresh or raw water cooled? Is it a 270 (170?) outdrive?

Aldo
Hey Dunaruna,
This is my brothers boat and it has a closed cooling sytem. I believe it has a 270 outdrive. He wants to pull the head and replace the gasket which could very possibly be the problem. I told him to post here and get suggestions on easier things to try first. It is only overheating above 2200 rpms.
Thanks
Sorry, I thought you were referring to a raw system. So the air bubbles are in the heat-exchanger, that is a sign of head gasket failure.

Aldo
it sounds like you are getting air into the heat exchanger

you can test it with and auto type raditor pressure tester and look for water entering any of the cyl through the spark plug holes

it sounds it a head gasket but why take apart the motor with out testing it to sure were the problem is

tommays
