1982-DT25 No spark-? Can't find manual

So my trusty DT cut out while trolling just outside the harbor. Had to get a tow in, that's why we buddy boat.
I was under way and it lost spark at both plugs. I'd love a manual but can't find one, not even thru brownspoint marine.
They have parts diaphragms that will help, but I'd really like a service manual.
This is a very low hour motor that has been very first pull reliable for 3 years. I just serviced the lower unit.It was not liking to idle super low, i know 2 strokes will load up at super low idle, so I went thru the basically pristine carb. Went out a couple times, fiddled w the mixture screw and called it good. Then put maybe 6-8 hours on it. It started right up that morning and had been running about a half hour when it quit while under way. No sputter, just died.

Gonna start checking things like nuetral safety switch and such.
Was wondering 1-if anyone had a manual they would sell and
2-if anyone has experienced any similar event and could recommend something
All I know now is there is no spark at either plug and it hasn't lost compression.
Got a few errands to run and hope to start checking this afternoon.
Does this engine have points ?
Thanks
Paul

check kill switch
being only one coil many things can cause no spark
check voltage to and out of CDI to see if in spec
Test ohms on coil and plug wires

No points that I know of if it has a CDI
neutral safety switch should only keep the starter from engaging not kill spark

no idea where to get service manual if brownspoint does not have it
Here is some info on troubleshooting outboards but it does not have info on Suzuki listed

Roger that about the neutral switch, kill switch is a suspect, will let you know what I find
Thanks Agent 99.LOL.

Should have used an 86 instead of the 99 when I was signing up,
but that was not the year of my motor

Thought about the old show later on:facepalm:

Oops, thats right. I was thinking 86. 99 was the chick, can't remember her name. I should that was my era.
Kill switch is ok. Coil primarys are not open, getting no reading from the secondary windings, gonna check to make sure i'm measuring right....

Did you check for spark while you were on the water?
Are you certain that it's spark and not a fuel issue?
This may sound simplistic but did you check the vent for the fuel tank.
Was out running the other day and the motor died for no apparent reason.
Remembered that my son filled the tank and put on board.
Vent was completely closed. Opened vent and started and ran fine.
If it's spark check all wiring connections and grounds.
I suspect my kill switch from time to time when I loose spark then it mysteriously re-appears?
Good luck, hope it's something simple.

Thanks for the manual link Rob.
Two Rivers, No check on water, had spare plugs but no wrench, left it on the other boat. Ooops.
Checked the vent on the water, OK. The way it died , I knew it was not a fouled/fouling plug problem.
Tested the kill switch, not that. Can't test plug wires individually, doubt they both went bad.
Coil has a single wh/bk wire going in. Testing primary windings between wire and ground/case of coil shows a 10ohm reading I think, I'm using a super cheesy radio shack meter. I have a fluke at work but I'm on vacation. If I go in to get it they'll put me to work. So this is all I have till monday. Checking continuity/resistance between the end of the coil wire and the wh/bl wire or between the gr/case is open/no reading. I also have a 20' Gregor with a 70 Johnson here. I will repeat the test on it's coils to see if I get simialar reading per coil testing, if that makes sense.

Did you get the manual downloaded?
Does it list ohm specs for your coils?
Ten ohms seems low?
I have an 87 DT30 and I could send you my coil specs but they probably won't be the same.
Is your MM analog or digital? Are you using and reading the correct settings, ie: X10, X100, etc?
I use a cheap RS analog MM for my outboards and it works fine.
Still think it's something simple.
Good luck an let us know how things work out.

Re: 1982-DT25 No spark-? Can't find manual

Not sure if I'm testing this one wire, waste spark coil properly. When testing between the wire and the ground/chassis of the coil, I assume this is the primary windings, my meter on the lowest ohms scale, 200ohms, is getting a reading of under 1 on the scale.
How do I get a reading on the secondaries ? On a car I would measure between the coil wire output terminal and either primary terminal looking for a reading of 8+ K ohms. I get an open on this coil from tip of plug wires to either the wire or the chassis/ground bracket.

I know the primary reading are low, specs I'll worry about later, I just want to know if the windings are open and if I'm checking the right terminals.

I have pics but cant get them to upload.

Havent had time yet to down load the manual, I was going to call brownspoint and ask if the pre 88 was similar, got sidetracked painting.....

check between the 2 plug wires, if it is a waste spark then it would be firing both at same time

But I have had a few cool ones already this evening and could be I am not thinking straight

No problem with your thinking (cold ones might help?).
Disconnect negative battery terminal.
Check resistance between the spark plug wires.
Specs for my 87 are: 2136-3204 ohms.
See if yours is close?
Good luck
