1982 Evinrude 90hp E90tlcnb Just bought the boat. New to boat motors. Ran great for awhile, while i was WOT the motor bogged down real low then very slowly picked back up but only just gets past planing. Idling way to low and sloppy. Took plugs off and reconnected while motor was running died on cylinders 1, 4, dropped real low when disconnected 2. No noticeable difference when 3 was disconnected. took off the coil got one off an old motor even though it looked pretty cracked up. Still a low choppy idle but has surges to it. Is this that cylinder trying to kick off? also is it safe for the motor to manually open carbs while hooked up to a hose? just to hear how it runs at WOT

The only time you should run an engine at WOT is when the engine is under load. You need spark and fuel to run properly: Check the spark on all 4 plug wires by testing with a spark-checking device or an inductive timing light. When the engine starts to bog when running, try constantly sqeezing the fuel hose primer bulb. That forces fuel around the fuel pump, directly into the carbs. If it picks up rpm's you could have a weak fuel pump.

I have tried priming the bulb while running The bulb is hard does not make a difference also pushed in the key to bypass the carbs no differece I have taken the carbs apart and cleaned them. The motor only bogged down once but did not pick all the way back up. Acts like it's only running at half throttle when at full and seems to be idling low and rough. I'm gonna do a spark and compression test when I get back home next week.
