I have a 1982 Evinrude E25TECN motor that is still in excellent shape for its age, over the last few years it has had a slight problem, starts and runs great at idle, when I rev it up in neutral it doesn't have a problem, when I put it into gear and try to go full speed forward it just doesn't come up to full speed. As if it isn't able to kick into the high speed jet on the carb. I have adjusted the throttle adjustment cleaned and re tuned the carb as well as put new plugs in it nothing changes, could it be the coils? or what? I just was told that maybe the fuel tank could not be venting properly and isn't allowing the engine to run full speed or maybe could be be taking in air into the fuel system someplace? I've tried all I know how to do want to see what I can find out on here before I brake down and take it to the shop. Anyone had the same problems and come up with a fix? Any help would be great. Thanks

replace fuel lines from tank to carb, with alcohol resistant fuel lines. remove and clean the high speed jet, it is behind the bowl drain plug. it is in the bottom of the carb bowl, any thing that settles in the bottom of the bowl, ends up in the high speed jet. read the TOP SECRET FILE. you also may need to do a link n sinc.

Fuel lines are brand new less than a year, and what is THE TOP SECRET FILE and a link & sinc.? I will try the carb jets, but it runs fine in neutral so to me thats not it.?

Running fine in neutral means nothing. Under load is all that counts for proper running. Crapped up carbs often run fine on the hose or in neutral.

You didn't say anything about how it's firing.I'd check that.A weak spark will make it bog.

If you haven't disassembled the carb and cleaned it completely, you need to do that. Cleaning means soaking the metal parts only in carb cleaner (i.e. Berryman's Chem Dip, etc.) and blow dry with compressed air after an overnight soak and being certain all orifices are 100% clear. If you can't do that, take the motor to a pro who can. Most failures (but not all) to attain full power with outboards are due to crap in the carbs.

It would also help to use a shop manual checklist for various running issues. The shop manual will guide you in a logical way to getting the motor running right.

What is this link & sinc. I keep hearing about? I've got the carb off didn't looked gummed up or anything but am letting it soak in carb cleaner and will put it back together tomorrow and this weekend hopefully if weather is good run it to see how it runs. I'm also going to check the fuel screen in the tank too.
