I have since torn the block apart, put all new pistons etc etc. Nothing was spared.

Everything went back together fine. Now today when I went to start the motor for the first time I ran into an issue. The motor spin very very slowly, almost like it is binding up.

I followed the manual, everything thing went together fine. The only thing that I didn't think was perfect were the aliment dowels on the crank. I think I had them in the hole but with enough force (fingers) I could get them to spin, but the block halves went back together just fine.

Maybe it is that, maybe the starter is dirty I don't know, but before I ruin something I am asking yall.

Please help me I at my wits end.

Pull the sparkplugs and see it its still bound up. If so pull the lower unit and recheck. If still bound up you either missed a pin and possibly forced halves together or if you replaced the main bearings the replacements are incorrect as there are 3 styles of these...

If you could spin the bearing shell at all, then you missed the dowel in the case, and when you bolted the cases together it causes a misalignment in the crank/bearings, making it stiff to turn over.

Test by removing the spark plugs and see if you can turn the flywheel by hand. It should NOT be too stiff.

Ok so I took the motor back apart and think I found out what was the problem. I didn't have the bottom alignment dowel and I forced the block together, thus I am think put the crank out of alignment. During that I managed to push one of the pins back into the block.

Here is my new questions, can I just pull that pushed in pin back out and reinstall correctly or do I need to purchase a new pin?

Just pull the pin back out far enough to provide positive, definate alignment of the bearing shell.

Good luck pulling pin as they are a tool steel carbon and laugh at drill bits. I repair customers by arcing a welding rod to pin and twist it out a replace it with one salvaged from a scrap block as these are not sold by Mercury.
