Opened it up this spring, started it up a few times. Rain rain rain. Now sunshine (except for this week) boat won't start. Seems to want to start right at the turn of the key. Kicks over as soon as key is turned and then just turns and acts like it wants to but just can't quite start. Pump throttle three times (always worked) and it wont even try to kick. Replaced plugs, points, cap wires, fuel filters, rotor and it just acts the same. Air filter on air filter off. Any suggestions?

Michael,

You need sevearl things for the engine to start.

1. Spark. At the right time.

2. Compression.

3. Air.

4. Fuel.

One or more of these is missing or is in insufficient quantity.

Did you do the tuning?

yes, pulled a couple of plugs and I've got spark. Haven't checked the timing though. plugs were wet and I could smell gas.

michael,

You are probably flooded.

Crank the engine with the throttle close to wide open with the choke plate held open. It should clear and start.

I don't think so. Let it sit overnight and it still acted like the first post I sent. It just seems like it's a day late or a dollar short from wanting to start (except when you first hit the key w/o extra gas) PS Quick start didn't help either. Also don't have the throttle on my boat.

Re Check you plug wires. If you repalced them make sure they are in the correct fireing order.

Do you have point or have you swtiched to a eletronic conversion. If you have points check the GAP.

Check timing as you turn the key and see if you are even close to spec.

RE CHECK YOUR PLUG WIRES FOR THE PROPER FIRING ORDER.

Just to let you all know, we pulle dthe dash panel and found a fuse you couldn't see from underneath. Replace one 15 amp fuse and started immediately. Needless to say we installed a new fuse relay away from underneath (A motorcycle harness) and re-routed all of the old fused wires.
Just a FYI. Thanks for the suggestions,
