1982 Mercruiser 260 problems.

Ok I have a 1982 sea ray. First boat ever. Know very very little about engines or anything. Basically had problems all last summer and had reasons to believe it was bad gas. Keeping it running while in the water is a problem. Get it runnin off a hose at the house. Take it out to the lake. Wont run. Dont understand.

Do you have any mechanical ability at all? If you don't, what do you think we can do for you?

The suggestions will come fast & furious, where you will just get confused! Bad gas = bad carb (usually). Try running it on remote tank & see if it runs any better. You don't do this with all your loved ones & in-laws on board, you & a helper that's it.

Enough that me and my buddy can figure it out. And yes i i dont have people on board while im working on my boat lol. anyways back to the topic. i dont care how fast the suggestions come. Ran in off a 5 gallon gas can and the water hose at the house. Runs fairly good. Im thinking the carb needs some work. Still dies every now and then. Sometimes when you put it in reverse. Sometimes when you go back to neutral from being in gear.
