Hi, I have a 1982 Sea Ray mercruiser 470, 4cyl. 3.7 engine which has stators built in behind the harmonic balance, wired to a water cooled electronic regulator that is over charging the battery, The higher the RPM's the higher the charging voltage , peaking at 17 volts .

I want to disable the original system and mount a 1 wire 110 amp V belt driven alternator to the engine.

The 1 wire alternator mounting to the engine should be no problem, and a 10 gauge 1 wire connects directly to the positive battery terminal.

Question:
How to disable the original charging circuit.
By disconnecting the two stator wire connectors, which if any other wires must be disconnected from the original regulator.

Thanks

complete remove the regulator , securly cap and tale the yellow leads. cap the Red Wire, you can remove the Orange wire completely and run a new one from the alt to the starter

A lot of people pull the balancer off and remove the stator completely. Remove the regulator and install a short length of copper tube. Tape up or otherwise insulate any wires that were going to the regulator.
