Is there a replacement starter with a piggy back solenoid available for my 1982 mercruiser 4 cyl 470 3.7 engine.
The original starter does not have a solenoid attached on top of the starter casing, it is mounted separately.
I feel the original starter of this type have a tendency for the pinion gear to get stuck into the fly wheel after the engine starts, with no way to know the pinion gear is stuck in the fly wheel and spinning the starter motor while running causing it to over heat and total ruin . this has happened twice, So is there a starter with the piggy back solenoid that would fit and work correctly in this engine.
